History
Young, entrepreneurial and innovative
In 1993 Shelley was doing a Master of Organisational Psychology along with 11 other people. This course could only be done part-time. Shelley and one other were the only ones who were working full-time and not working as a consultant. All of the others intensely disliked marketing themselves. And most weren’t very good at it.
At the same time Ruth was working on contracts in a very large organisation and a non-profit environmental organisation. All three roles required her to occasionally engage external consultants. She witnessed firsthand how hard it was for her and the managers in these organisations to find external consultants. It was time consuming and there was always an element of uncertainty when they made their final selection of the external consultant. Would the consultant deliver what was needed?
Through friends, Shelley also discovered this was becoming a more common problem. Two problems, two opposing needs, and two groups of people.
What to do? Sit in the middle of the problem and find out how to solve it.
As innovative young entrepreneurs Shelley and Ruth could see there was an opportunity and that they could solve the problem for both parties. Maitland Consulting Group was born.
After a year of preparation, Maitland Consulting Group was registered as a company on 24 June 1994 and opened for business on 4 July. We are still here 20 years later and enjoying every minute of it!
Since then Maitland has grown into a nationally focused company. We work with some of Australia’s largest companies as well as many Federal and State government agencies and Local governments.
